Custody Agreement for
Heritage Assets
National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration

The NOAA Property Management Officer (PMO) hereby authorizes the steward whose signature appears below to assume responsibility for the NOAA Heritage Assets (hereinafter called the assets) listed on the inventory report. The PMO may intervene if they consider that the security of the assets warrants the action. The Steward agrees that the assets shall be used for exhibition purposes only. Consumptive use of heritage assets is prohibited.

The steward shall not transfer the assets in any manner to any third party either directly or indirectly without first notifying the PMO. The steward shall not in any way alter, mark, or deface either the mounting or the surface of the assets. No asset installed in place shall be moved or in any way handled by anyone. The steward shall take such steps as it considers necessary to prevent such movement or handling. Requests for handling and removal of such assets shall be directed to the PMO in a timely manner.

The steward shall, within 24 hours of discovery, report all instances of loss, damage, or destruction of assets to the PMO. The steward is responsible for any and all expenses incident to custody of the assets, including packing, crating, and shipping. The steward shall report annually all significant expenditures for the maintenance and care of the assets. The steward is responsible for responding to all requests by the PMO for inventories and/or condition assessment surveys. Weapons will be displayed and stored to maximally ensure their security and safety.
